A Short History
The geodesic dome was popularized by R. Buckminster Fuller, an engineer in the 20th century. He created domes with the idea that polygonal or triangular facets could replace the arch principle and evenly distribute the created stress throughout the entire structure.
Because of this, the dome can be placed on the ground without a foundation and hold its tension evenly.
Since its creation, domes have been used as homes, theatres, sports arenas, and even exhibition halls like in 1967 at Expo 67 Montreal.
